Fried Green Tomatoes
Is it too much to ask for a quiet meal in our backyard?
Why don't we see green tomatoes in farm markets in South Central Pennsylvania? They really need to do simple cooking demos at farm markets.
Not hard to make at all. Plus you get to pick them early when you can't wait for a ripe tomato and late when the nights are starting to cool and they will soon be gone along with summer.
Slice green tomatoes about 1/2" thick, sprinkle with salt and pepper, dip into corn meal. Saute in just enough hot oil to cover the bottom of a pan. Let the cornmeal get nice and brown to form the crust.
They have a mild tart flavor. Which pairs well with a zippy sauce.
My quick sauce: mayo, hot sauce of your choice, crumbled blue cheese.

Colorado had a very cold and wet May, so we couldn't plant tomatoes until Memorial Day ... I'll have plenty of the green variety to give this a try. I've never made them. I really like your recipe for the sauce. Seems like that would go with about anything.
That's either a really tall chicken or a really short table!
Just watched the end of the movie by the same title the other night!
